Back in the days when I was dealing poker in a strip joint, it used to be filled with smoke, loud music and of course naked women everywhere. My boss asked me; do you know how to deal blackjack? I answered no; but said how hard can it be to count to 21, not knowing there was way more involved than just counting to 21; there were very important Rules too. But him being just as oblivious to the game as I was, the yonk gave me a bankroll and sent me on my way.

Yea he forgot to tell me where I would be dealing blackjack. He just gave me an address and sent me on my way. No problem! I was ready and willing, reminding myself that this was going to be fun, and damn the “shock” couldn’t have gotten better! I went from dealing poker in a strip joint to dealing black jack in a gay bar! Yea you heard me right, in a gay bar. Lucky for me, it was female impersonation night, and I had a front row seat.

The people were strange yet fantastic, just really nice. Now there was a time when my spiky hair were actually long! Its difficult for me to even remember myself with long hair now! But yeah my hair was certainly belonging to the category of “long” then.

Now gay men like nothing better than to make them selves beautiful…and if they cant do it to them selves, then do it to those around them! And guess whom that included? Yes - lucky me.

I wasn’t there for an hour and they were playing dress up with me. I’m talking about putting dress up clothes and shoes on me, fixing my make-up and hair bigger than it already was. By the time the show started you would have thought I was a female impersonator myself! Can’t fight the fish when in water! So I got all decked up giving all the Broadway opera’s a run for their money!

The drinking and gambling began. The blackjack game was on. I can barely count to 21 when I am sober, how in the world will I count to 21 when I am drunk? Not to worry, neither could they.

The money was flying around like the wind, we were all drunk and no one had a clue on any official rules of blackjack, but I sure acted as if I owned the rules of the game. If I said I had blackjack they would all agree and clap, sometimes if someone was loosing all his money I would tell him he beat me, and would pay him off.

They didn’t know any better, and I didn’t really care at that time. As I said no one had a clue on the official rules of blackjack or what was going on so it really didn’t matter, as long as I was the big winner at the end of the night, everything was great.

For a while that became my new job, no more girls running around the poker table half naked, now it was all guys who wanted to be girls running around the blackjack table half naked, wow how do I find these jobs?

Lucky is what I would call it.

I became really good friends with most of the people. But before I knew it they shut it down for illegal gambling in a bar. You see it was ok to deal poker in a bar, because we didn’t cut the pot for rake, we made money from tips only, and that was the legal way to do it.

I can honestly say; I was the lucky one, I had made friends with so many people there. I also learned two lessons, one how to count to 21 in many ways as also I learned not to judge people for what they are, but for who they are.

I can tell you they are everyday people just like you and me. We all loved to play blackjack, They just have different sexual preferences, but they do have hands, feet, legs, arm, hair, and most of all; they all have a heart, just like me. They give hella good tips on beauty. Sometimes I also need to remind myself to stop the judging and remember we are all Gods children, we all come from the same place, our mothers privates, so we cannot be too different can we? Make love not war.

Whats cooking?...At the Poker Table and at home after winning! I can’t tell you what I enjoy more, cooking or playing poker. Both are skills that have taken me years to acquire. They both relax me, and if you ask me I am great at both. My husband will disagree with me about being a great poker player.

He loves my tournament skills, but he is not a fan of my live poker skills. He knows I am a great chef, he knows I am a wonderful wife and mother, but he does not feel the same as I do about me being a great poker player hahaha. You would think after 19 years of being with married to me he would stop and say; hey that’s her poker game. And if it works for her then good. The truth is I want poker players in my poker game to think I am crazy and I talk too much. Because I do! I can answer almost any question about cooking or poker and I am usually right. If you don’t believe that just ask my husband.

Cooking just comes natural to me. At the age of 12 my sister broke her thigh and she spent 6 months in the hospital. Mommy had to take care of her. So someone had to take charge and become the mom in our house. Sense I grew up fast and at a young age. I started to cook and clean everyday. We ate spaghetti every night. How hard could that be?! Just brown some ground meat, add a jar of ragu, and boil noodles. Easy… But daddy liked having his meat, rice and gravy, salad, bread, with fresh veggies every night. So of that’s when I started learned to cook variety. Just like all Cajuns we eat anything fried or anything with rice and gravy. Yummy!

I am 44 years old now and have so much passion to cook that you can almost smell it here! I hope to one day write my own cookbook. But until then I will keep on blogging about how wonderful I am!

I started playing poker at the age of 18. I went with friends to a strip club for a party, the dancers didn’t catch my eyes as much as what I saw in the background, there were two tables, one was a poker table and one was a blackjack table, I was drawn straight to the poker table, I was fascinated by the gambling going on. I had never been around anything like that before. But I loved it.

I started watching and wanted to play so bad. The man running the poker game said; sit down and try it. I went back to be with my friends and just couldn’t keep my eyes away from the poker table. All I was thinking was; I want to play! And I did. I made $40 into $420 on my first day of play! The rest is history, I was addicted to gambling just by that one night of playing poker. Who knows just from playing poker that night I may be the next big winner of the world series of poker. Every night the boss man would ask me if I wanted to deal poker for him, but I was just learning to play the game of poker, plus my daddy would kill me. Working in a strip joint! Even though I wasn’t a stripper I was in a strip joint with naked ladies everywhere and gambling was going on. Not daddy’s dream for his lil girl. But the money was right and I was over 18. So I just did it. I became a poker dealer/ player.

They decided to have the first annual poker tournament. It would be 100 dollars to enter and there were close to 40 poker players. I can remember one poker hand I played, because it was a certainly a lesson hand to me. I had pocket kings [kk] and a fat man next to me had pocket threes [33], I flopped a king [k] and it came runner, runner diamonds. Which made four diamonds on the poker board. I bet, and he raised me. I folded, I folded because it only took one diamond to beat me, this guy I had played poker with before, and he was a pretty solid poker player. I showed him my hand and he laughed while showing me his. He showed me a pair of 3’s, no diamond. He looked at me and said; “all good poker players throw away winning hands from time to time”. Now I was really determined to win this poker tournament, it was time to change gears, take off the dress, and put on my poker gear, whatever that was. This was a limit poker tournament. By me putting poker chips in on the flop and turn, I should have called the raise on the river. I had risked putting my poker chips all that way, how was one more bet going to hurt me. A good first of many lessons to learn while playing in my first poker tournament. I won that poker tournament. And I went on to play and win many more poker tournaments.

As you can see I have the cloth made both for the dinner as well as the poker table. And that’s how I became the great cook and poker player I am. Ok so maybe only in my eyes. But with a stuffed stomach AND a stuffed wallet! Ahh what does one need more in life!

Welcome to the Borderline!

Most people recognize me for dealing poker in the two best poker rooms in Las Vegas. My first job in Las Vegas was at the Mirage poker room. Those were some exciting days! Later on I moved to their sister casino Bellagio Hotel and Casino.

Lets back this story up a little. I went for a vacation to sunny Las Vegas in 1989 where I found my calling. I wanted to be a poker dealer so bad I could taste it! Say Bon, that’s good!

I had limited experience as a poker dealer in Louisiana, where we played in places you would never dream of! Or maybe you would, a strip club! A loud smoke filled room with both poker players and men who just wanted to feast their eyes upon naked woman.

After a little research I found myself at the best poker room in town, “The Mirage poker room”. I got myself a job , and truly loved it.

They referred to me as the lady with the big blonde hair and long legs. Those good old days have passed and now it has changed. Wine gets better when it gets older! Lol Now they refer to me as the lady with the spiky blonde hair who never has a problem speaking her mind.

Through out all the partying, while at the Mirage poker room. I managed to find myself a good friend, one day it turned out to be more than just friends. I felt I was ready to stop all the partying and be like most of the normal southern people I know.

I wanted something in my life that had a meaning. To me, that meant settling down and starting my own family. My best friend, who is now my husband, Robert Border, is an experienced poker dealer. As a matter of fact most poker players mark him as being one of the greatest poker dealers around, and I agree.

I caught myself sitting and watch him deal all day, admiring him to the fullest. Well not everyday, but he is the greatest in my eyes.

In the spring of 1992 we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. We named her Britany Nicole Border. Having her was the greatest thing I have ever experienced. She has brought so much love and joy into our lives.

Now having a baby girl has straightened my butt up real fast. Today she’s a teenager and she believes she knows it all. But, so do I. Haha!

Inspite of the love for the game of poker, I will never trade them over poker any day. With a loving family like mine, you can’t go wrong. I have the winning Royal Flush right there! We are now The Border’s, The Border Group, and don’t think you can cross the Borderline.

Hopping down the poker trail

Hippidy dippidy hop down the poker trail, pokers on its way. I love playing poker. Whether it is in a casino or on any online poker site like EnterAtlantis.com.

As long as I have been playing online poker I have never cashed out. I have won some large amounts in live poker games and made some nice little scores in poker tournaments, and still, it isn’t me who hits the cash out button, it’s my husband.

He is the one who always hits my transfer button to transfer most of my winnings to his poker account. That way I don’t stand a chance of putting it all back, because I’m sure, he will not be transferring it back to me.

Recently he has taught me a good lesson on poker table-hopping, and I will share it with you. I watch him playing poker a lot, because we have side-by-side computers in our office.

He is constantly hopping from poker table to another poker table, so I asked him one day “Why do you table hop so much when you are winning in the poker game you are playing”?

He usually plays No Limit Hold ‘em; he also plays two or three poker games at a time. His answer to me is “Its good money management”. So of course I start laughing and ask him to explain.

He says “If I buy into this poker game for $100 and I double it, making it look like $200, I quit and move to another poker game. Unless two or more poker players don’t have more than a $100, then I stay”.

“That way I’m not risking the $100 I bought in for, I am playing with my winnings. And if I do that every time, I will have a great control of my money and have a better shot of being a winning poker player”.

So I ask him “What if you lose the $100 that you started with?” He smiled at me and said “Babe I don’t lose, but if I do, then it’s the same method, I hop to the next available poker table and start fresh, continue on with my poker game”.

The more I think about it, he’s right. If only I had the discipline he does, I could be a winning poker player too. But until then, I guess the transfer button is my only win.
